James Magowan

Co-Founder and Managing Director

At Arboreal Capital and through his previous roles at Sutter Securities, Security Research Associates and Johnson Capital, Mr. Magowan has originated, structured and capitalized companies in the sectors of renewable energy, resource conservation, healthcare, technology, financial services and real estate. Mr. Magowan is also an early stage investor in inclusive technology and financial services, and resource conservation. Mr. Magowan has previously served as a strategic consultant to investors including The World Bank/IFC, Inter-American Development Bank, and the Swiss Fund for Emerging Markets in the area of financial services and development. Mr. Magowan serves on/as: the Board of Directors of Merchants National Properties (“MNPP”), the Advisory Board of Cornerstone Capital, a member of TONIIC & CREO Syndicate, and Vice President of a Private Family Foundation. Mr. Magowan co-organized Investing in Deep Decarbonization Conference, serves as a Partner at the Caribbean Climate Smart Initiative, and has been a speaker at conferences Sponsored by United Nations, World Bank / IFC, KfW, SOCAP, and TONIIC. Mr. Magowan is an honors graduate of Harvard University and holds an MBA from IMD International.

Sean Lenz

Co-Founder and Managing Director

At Arboreal Capital, and through Mr. Lenz’s previous roles as a senior member in the real estate investment banking groups at Sutter Securities, Salem Partners, Cantor Fitzgerald, and BMO Capital Markets, Mr. Lenz has advised senior management teams on over $10 billion in merger, reverse merger, and divestiture transactions and more than $10 billion in debt and equity financings for public and private REITs, private real estate operators and developers and funds. Transaction experience has included initial public offerings, follow-on offerings, senior and subordinated notes, proprietary loans, and in excess of $5 billion in private capital raising assignments, his primary focus. Mr. Lenz has covered all sectors within the real estate space as well as infrastructure (including buy-side acquisition and asset management experience) and energy assets. Mr. Lenz began his career as an Analyst in Wachovia Securities’ Real Estate Corporate Finance Group (Wells Fargo). He graduated cum laude from the University of Richmond with majors in Finance and Leadership Studies. Mr. Lenz is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA).
